Portrait of young woman
Hello! My name is Emily! I recently graduated from Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario, for Graphic Design. Some of you may be wondering how I ended up here. Well, it all started at the age of 8 when I got my mum’s hand-me-down camera for Christmas. I remember being so excited. I took pictures of everything for a while. Then, at 13, everyone would take “artsy” pictures on school trips, so that was my attempt to fit in. Then, it turned into something I loved. I also got into creating photo books. I would watch my mum make them from the pictures she took on our summer camping trips and family events, so I made one of our pets at the time. Those around me saw how creative I would get. I loved it, and not only did people see I loved it, but they saw how good I was at it at such a young age. When I was 15, I bought my first DSLR; when I was 16, I bought a higher-end DSLR. I wanted to go to post-secondary for photography. When I got accepted into both graphic design and photography, I had to choose. I chose graphic design because I thought it would have more future. Being in graphic design has allowed me to expand my artistic strength and pair my photography skills with graphic design. It allowed me to expand my knowledge and talent and find new passions as well. This journey has been enriching, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I am excited to see the future and look forward to more learning and growth.

I have learned so much in my few years in the program. I can produce projects from rough concepts to highly proficient products ready for print and web. I have in-depth knowledge of design concepts, which include layout, colour, typography, resolution and print. I am organized and able to manage and prioritize multiple projects while meeting required deadlines, all while maintaining professional quality work. I am familiar with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and more. I am a very hardworking individual with a love for learning. I work well independently and on a team. I am enthusiastic and passionate and want to improve my knowledge and skills every day.
